Before the Aloha Stadium, there was the Honolulu Stadium, which was located at the corner of King and Isenberg Streets in the Mo'ili'ili area of Honolulu, Hawaii. Built in 1926 and torn down in 1976, this stadium saw many a legendary star during its long tenure. Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Elvis Presley, and Irving Berlin are just a few of the many headliners who passed through the stadium to rave reviews and sold-out crowds. The University of Hawaii Warriors football team made the stadium their home for a number of years, and the Hawaii Islanders held home games there from 1961-1975. The “Termite Palace,” as it was affectionately known, was also the chosen spot for the Pineapple Bowl and the Poi Bowl. The site where the stadium once stood is now commemorated by a plaque at the corner of King and Isenberg in Old Stadium Park.
