Hoofddorp Railway Station

Hoofddorp – translated as Main Village – is the main city of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, part of the province of North Holland, The Netherlands. The city houses the Hoofddorp Railway Station, which serves the town.

The station was initially connected to Leiden, Aalsmeer and Harleem, on August 3rd, 1912, but later closed down in December 31st, 1935. In 1981, the station was reopened. This time, it was linked to Leiden and Schiphol Airport, and is now on the Amsterdam - Schiphol - Leiden Centraal - Den Haag - Rotterdam main line. The current building stands since 1998. Though this station is actually the second one in Hoofddorp it is the main station, the first one now being in residential use.

Hoofddorp is linked directly to Schiphol Airport. The Rotterdam Airport is also quite close to the station. The city is also connected by bus to many other towns in the surrounding area: Harleem , Amsterdam, Nieuw Vennep, Uithoorn, Badhoevedorp, Hillegom, Lisse, Lijnden, Zwanenburg. The world’s largest structure built entirely from synthetic materials is the bus station in Hoofddorp, at the Spaarne Hospital.
