Akron Zoo

Hotels near Akron Zoo, Akron, United States .

The premier attraction of Summit County, Ohio, the Akron Zoo (check out its website at www.akronzoo.org) is rated in the top 10% of all zoos and aquariums in the United States. The zoo is located on a piece of land donated by George and Ann Perkins in the year 1900, but it was not started until 1953. Though it had quite humble beginnings, the Akron Zoo today is home to more than 700 animals from 90 different species. It is one of only 218 world conservation zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and hosts over one million visitors each year. Much of its efforts are concentrated on conservation.

The Akron Zoo is a great place for families, children and people of all ages. From May to October, the zoo is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Zoo-goers should watch out for special hours in October as the zoo prepares for its special Halloween exhibits. Regular admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for senior citizens and $6 for children. A group rate of $5 is available in certain circumstances, and Akron Zoo members gain access for free. Parking is an affordable $2. During the winter, zoo hours are shortened from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily and admission prices are lowered to $6 (hours and admission prices from September 17, 2009). Those willing to brave the cold can enjoy the wonderful animals even then while staying at local hotels like the Comfort Inn and enjoying other city attractions.
