The House of Parliament Bern, while not one of the city of Berne's oldest structures, does blend into the cityscape with its New Renaissance style.

Constructed in 1852 and officially finished in 1902, the House of Parliament Bern rests in front of an expansive square. Parliament Square, as it is referred, recently was converted from a parking lot into a pedestrian-filled piazza, complete with a spouting water fountain.

The seat of the Swiss government and the parliament, or National Council and Council of States, all conduct the business of politics here.

Featured in the House, Switzerland's own 38 national artists designed decorations for the building. The central domed hall and chambers also feature renderings of Swiss history.

Tours are given of the buildings, Monday-Saturday throughout the hours of 9:00AM, 10:00AM, 11:00AM, 2:00PM, 3:00Pm, and 4:00PM, lasting around 45 minutes.
