Established in 1909 by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is visited by more than two million individuals each year. Besides its four floors of natural science halls and exhibits, the museum complex also includes the Burke Baker Planetarium, the Cockrell Butterfly Center and the Wortham IMAX Theater.

The museum hosts both permanent and traveling exhibits. Some permanent attractions include the Foucault Pendulum and the Farish Hall of Texas Wildlife. Special exhibitions are constantly changing and in the past have included The Chronicles of Narnya and Spirits & Headhunters. Featured IMAX films are also constantly changing and can be consulted at www.hmns.org.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a top national attraction. It works in conjunction with several area hotels such as the Hilton and the Hyatt Regency in setting up special packages for visitors and also makes its facilities available for rental for special events such as weddings.

The museum’s hours vary depending on the time of year, as do the schedules of special attractions such as the IMAX. Visitors should consult the website before setting out. Admission prices are $15.00 and under but depend largely upon the attractions patrons which to see.
