Hudson River Walkway

Hotels near Hudson River Walkway, East Greenbush, United States .

Located along the scenic Hudson River, on the New Jersey shoreline just south of where it becomes New York there are approximately 15 or more miles of trails and paths and parks that collectively form the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The Waterfront Walkway is still a work in progress (as of late 2009), and when finished is projected to boost the length of trails up to a total of 18.5 miles; the project is under the management of the Hudson County Division of Planning, with guidance from the New Jerset Department of Environmental Protection.

From one end to the other, the space that the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway occupies covers the distance from the George Washington Bridge down to the Bayonne Bridge. The original plan for a walkway of this sort along the river in this stretch of the river was presented back in the 1970s, but is only presently being brought to realization. The development of the project wasn't without controversy, with issues of property rights and eminent domain having come into play in a slew of legal actions.

The walkway passes through several riverside communities, several quite large, including Jersey City, Hoboken, West New York, North Bergen and Fort Lee, all of which have an ample selection of hotels, motels, and other lodgings available.
