Hungarian National Museum

The Hungarian National Museum not only boasts a proud legacy with its extensive collections, but at the same time, witnessed the spark that led to the Hungarian Revolution in 1848. Its permanent exhibitions of historical highlights offer a view of the country’s remarkable past.

The bulk of the museum’s acquisitions came from the private collections of Count Ferenc Szechenyi, which consisted of valuable prints, books, maps, copperplates and manuscripts. Today, the Hungarian Museum has accumulated daunting amounts of ancient artifacts ranging from Roman stone relics, religious robe reportedly used by St. Stephen, tombstones from the Middle Ages and fine ceramic ware. More historical features are on show at the Hungarian National Museum, depicting the change of leaderships and different ethnicities in the Hungary.

The museum is open everyday from 10 in the morning to 6 p.m. except Mondays. It’s a major stop during sightseeing activities in Budapest. Choose from a fantastic selection of city center hotels, many of which are as old as Budapest’s streets.
