Husein Sastranegara International Airport is a public airport facility that is situated at the end of Pajajaran Street 4 km from the city of Bandung in West Java, Indonesia. It is managed and operated by PT Angkasa Pura II. Husein Sastranegara is also a joint civil and military airport that has 7,361 feet x 148 ft asphalt runway that is elevated at 2436 ft. The airport’s IATA code is BDO and its ICAO id is WICC.

It is currently serving flights bound to and from Denpasar, Bali, Singapore, Batam, Surabaya, Menado and Kuala Lumpur-Sepang. Sriwijaya Air, Merpati Nusantara Airlines and Indonesia AirAsia are the airline companies offering air lifts in and out of the West Java province. Moreover, it serves as the major gateway to the “Tourist Shopping City” of Indonesia.

The Husein Sastranegara Airport has been servicing the area since 1930, and currently needs to undergo extreme renovations. It occupies a total land area of 1,300 hectares which is not big enough to accommodate more planes. Improvement plans have been ongoing to enhance the airports facilities in order to cater the increasing number of passengers.

The Governor of West Java has confirmed that a new airport facility will be constructed to replace the Husein Sastranegara International Airport, which will be named as Bandung Majalengka International Airport. The upcoming new airport will feature a 3,500 ft runway, along with hotels and shopping centers on the surrounding area.

The airport’s infrastructure development plan is still underway but the province of West Java is already looking forward to the new and improved International Airport.
