I.P. Pavlova Metro Station

I.P. Pavlova Railway Station is an important part of the Prague Metro network, in the Czech Republic. As the metro services in Prague are the fastest, easiest way around the city, the railway network in Prague is the seventh busiest railway network in Europe.

The station was opened on the 9th of May, 1974, named after the Russian psychologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov. The station lies under the I.P. Pavlov Square (in Czech I.P. Pavlova, or - in short - Ipak). It is also a major tram stop.

Tickets machines are conveniently placed around the station, and only accept coins. Tickets can also be purchased at some newspaper stands, at ticket offices at the entrance of the subway station, at a Tabák/Trafika, at the tourist information centres, or by simply using the mobile phone, sending a SMS with ‘DPT’ to the number 902 06 26, and the ticket will be send to the phone in one minute. Tickets must be punched at the entrance of the station, in order to mark the beginning of the validation period. There is the option of buying a single ticket – for a short ride – or a transfer ticket – for multiple, long rides. Children under 6 travel free of charge.

Landmarks and important institutions located nearby are Wenceslas Square, Old Town Hall with Orloj Astronomical Clock, Havlickovy Gardens, Prague State Opera, Estates Theatre, Czech National Theatre, Charles Bridge, St. Nicholas Church, Prague National Museum, Henrys Towers. For a shopping spree, the Palladium Shopping Centre is recommended.
