IJburg

Still on the process of being constructed, IJburg is a proposed residential neighbourhood located on artificial islands on Lake IJ in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It comes under the borough of Zeeurg.
The plans for IJburg were published back in 1965 and were designed by the architects Van den Broek and Bakema to accommodate almost 350,000 residents. But the plans never saw light for the next few decades and it was only in 1996 that it was approved.
Comprising of 6 islands on Lake IJ and 4 more islands to be added later on, IJburg is offers mesmerizing sightseeing options as well. The six islands are Steigereiland or Jetty Island, Haveneiland West and East or Harbour Island, and three Reed Islands.
In November 2002, the first set of residents moved into one the Reed Islands. IJburg is connected to the rest Amsterdam by means of a tram line. There are also several bridges enabling road travel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IJburg
