Also known as the Mati National Airport, the Imelda R. Marcos Airport serves the general Mati City airport that is located in the Davao Oriental province. It is the only airport in Davao Oriental and is classified by the Air Transportation Office as a secondary airport. The Air Transportation office is a division of the Department of the Transportation and Communication which is responsible for the airport operations as well as all other major Philippine international airports.

Named after the former first lady Imelda Marcos, this airport is one of the airports in the Philippines named after a Marcos Family member. The other airport named after the Marcos’ family is the Daniel Z Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City.

Mati is a Davao Oriental municipality in the Philippines and is the capital of Davao. It has a population of 105, 908 in the year 2000. Mati is currently considered one of the hot tourist spots in the Philippines. A road show in both Bali, Indonesia and Boracay, Philippines was created by the Department of Tourism to promote Mati’s white sand beaches especially in the Dahican beach area. Clear water and seventeen kilometers of the most immaculate sand makes Mati in Davao a notable tourist spot.
