Imperial Beach is a city located in the county of San Diego, California. Founded in 1887, This southernmost beach city of California finds itself situated between the sunny San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. A major event which occurs in Imperial Beach is the classic car show, held every summer, as well as the ever-popular U.S. Open Sand Castle tournament, which takes place over three days and often draws crowds of several hundred thousand people. Imperial Beach is the home of The Tijuana Estuary, which provides refuge and aid to endangered birds and wildlife. The Estuary is located at the intersection with the Pacific Ocean and the Tijuana River, making it Southern California's largest salt water marsh. Famous residents have included software guru Charlie Jackson and actors Lou Meza and Matthew Modine.
