One of the most exciting maritime museums in the country, The Independence Seaport Museum is located right on the Delaware River and offers visitors a chance to explore warships, submarines, and the rich history of sea-faring folk in the country.

Founded in the 1960s, The Independence Seaport Museum has a number of different permanent exhibits, including a real submarine, a warship, and many historical exhibits. There are ship models and maritime artifacts from shipwrecks, but the real draw are the full-sized boats, which are both on display and part of more interactive sections of the museum.

A number of different temporary and traveling exhibits also find their way to The Independence Seaport Museum each year, including a special exhibit about sailor tattoos and historic ships. There are special events, including a celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day, too.

The Independence Seaport Museum is open daily from ten until five. A number of Philadelphia hotels are just a short way away, including The Sheraton Society Hill Hotel, The Thomas Bond House, and The Penn's View Hotel.
