The International Mask and Puppet Museum, located at 518 Prospect Avenue in Syracuse, New York, in the section of the town known as “Little Italy,” is a delightfully entertaining and educational option for visitors and residents. Started in 1980, collections featured by the museum include several from each of the 6 global, geographic regions: Europe, North America, Oceania, Asia, Africa, and South America. These include marionettes and shadow puppets from India, masks, rod and shadow puppets from Bali, masks and artifacts from Africa, shadow puppets from China, Vietnamese water puppets, Commedia dell'Arte masks from Italy, and Mexican masks and Day of the Dead artifacts. Some of the current collections and exhibitions making their way through the International Mask and Puppet Museum include “Puppet Arts of India” and “Masks of Bali.”

The museum is open on Fridays by appointment from 10 Am to 4 PM, and there are performances Saturdays from 10 AM to noon. Gift shop hours are the same on Fridays, and before and after the Saturday performances.
