One of the most unique attractions for both tennis lovers and novices, the International Hall of Fame is located in New Port, Rhode Island. It is a non-profit hall of fame and museum, which is actually located in the Newport Casino. The Casino building was built in the 1880s by James Gordon Bennett, Jr. The Casino, which essentially functioned as a social club, enjoyed a relatively short period of business success due to the onset of the Depression. In 1954 James Van Alen established the Tennis Hall of Dame and Museum in the Newport Casino, and the headliner players that soon came helped to save the museum as well as the casino.
