Ironwood Airport aka, Gogebic-Iron County Airport services the both the Gogebic and Iron County areas in the state of Michigan. The airport was dedicated on September 3, 1930; over 15,000 attended the ceremony. Today the airport consists of a stone hangar built in 1938, a paved east-west runway constructed in 1949, a terminal building, which was resurrected in 1960, during the summer, a newer runway built in 1978 and several new hangars. In 1978 Gogebic county entered into an agreement with Iron County for joint management of the airport. Airlines which service the airport include Great Lakes Airlines with flights to several destinations throughout the United States. Flights operate seven days a week.
