Iroquois Park

Hotels near Iroquois Park, Louisville (Kentucky), United States .

Iroquois Park is situated on over 700 acres south of the downtown area of the city and provides sweeping views of Louisville. Designed by noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead (also responsible for Cherokee Park and the Landward House gardens), the park was supposed to be a true retreat for local residents, on the order of a national park. It opened in the late 1890’s.

Besides the expansive forest areas which provide visitors with a true source of contact with nature, Iroquois Park is known for its WPA-built Amphitheater which dates back to 1938. This historic theater underwent a $9 million renovation project and hosts concerts in summer months (the band Wilco played a show in 2008). Another feature is the 18-hole Iroquois Golf Course, a par 71 course located at 1501 Rundill Rd. Lined with creeks and many challenges for golfers, it is a popular place for golf lessons or to tee off with friends and family. Also in the park are basketball courts, an archery range, hiking and horseback riding trails, picnic areas, tennis courts, scenic trails and more.

Accommodations in the area include the Holiday Inn Southwest (4110 Dixie Hwy), the Marriott Courtyard Louisville Airport (819 Phillips Ln), the Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport (830 Phillips Ln), the Howard Johnson (709 Phillips Ln), the Hampton Inn (800 Phillips Ln) and the Springhill Suites on 820 Phillips.
