Izmir Atatürk Stadium is an Olympic stadium in Izmir, Turkey. The construction started in 1964 and ended in 1971 in time for hosting the 1971 Mediterranean Games. With a seating capacity of 64,000, is Turkey's second largest stadium and with 8,000 square meter area for athletics, the Izmir Ataturk Stadium, is Turkey's biggest stadium regarding only to its athletic field. The record attendance of 85,000 people was recorded at a Karsiyaka-Göztepe derby football match.
The stadium has hosted 23 of Izmir University Summer Games, with the opening and closing show taking place there. In 2005 it was restored in order to host the University games of the same year. It also hosted three Turkish Cup Finals in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
