One of the attractions of this city is the Izmir Ethnographic Museum which was first built way back in 1831. Its collection is not the only interesting part of this place for this museum used to be a hospital, a care house and a sanitation institution. As a hospital, it catered to the poor victims of the Black Death.

It became a museum in 1984 and the whole edifice is consists of 3 floors. Here, you can learn about the daily lives of the people of Izmir from their tools, livelihood and costumes. Learn about their ancient industries like pottery, leather production, carpet weaving and blue bead making. Izmir Ethnographic Museum is open daily except Mondays. Visitors can come from 8:30am -12pm and 1pm-5pm.

Close to the museum are some attractions in the city like a theme park, a bath house, traditional marketplaces like an Agora and the covered market of Kizlaragasi Han. As a major city, there are many restaurants and shops close to th museum.
