Jack London Square

Hotels near Jack London Square, Oakland (California), United States .

Jack London Square is an important tourist destination in downtown Oakland named after the local writer, famous for Call of the Wild and other works. It is situated on the end of Broadway near the estuary which separates Oakland from Alameda. On the square, visitors will find a number of restaurants, hotels, historic attractions, a theater and the actual cabin in which Jack London resided in the north.

Once the key port for Oakland industry, Jack London Square was a key spot in the writer’s early childhood and later, at the historic Heinhold’s First and Last Chance Saloon, the place London began his career as a writer. Heinhold’s, which was built in 1883 using the planks of a whaling ship, is a landmark that retains the flavor of that bustling, exciting era in the history of Oakland.

Accommodations in the area include the Waterfront Plaza Hotel (10 Washington Street), the Jack London Inn (444 Embarcadero W), the Inn at Jack London Square (233 Broadway), the Homewood Suites (1103 Embarcadero) and the Marriott City Center (1001 Broadway).
