Jack London State Historical Park

Hotels near Jack London State Historical Park, Glen Ellen, United States .

The Jack London State Historic Park is located near Glen Ellen, California on land once owned by American writer Jack London. Set on the eastern slope of the Sonoma Mountain, it is notable for both its natural beauty and historical significance.
The park was originally occupied by a winery, but was purchased by London in 1905 as a result of the author’s dreams of becoming a rancher. London and his family set out to build a mansion on the property, but the property was destroyed by a fire in 1913. London himself died in 1916, but his family continued there until the 1950s. Upon the death of London’s wife, a museum was built upon the site, which was the start of the park itself, opening in 1959.
Today, nature lovers and London fans visit the Jack London Historic Park throughout the year. Park highlights include the House of Happy Walls (a museum), London’s gravesite, and the Wolf House (the remains of London’s dream mansion).
The park is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, and the House of Happy Walls has shorter hours. For further information, visitors should go to www.parks.sonoma.net to find out more.
