Those visiting Austin might surprised to find out that the country's largest university art museum is right there in town, but it's true. The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, located at the University of Texas at Austin, houses an incredible collection of works from Latin America, Europe, and The United States. In addition to this permanent collection, the museum always has a couple of temporary exhibitions on, which run the gamut from featuring lesser-known contemporary artists as well as historic luminaries.

Some of the highlights of the museum's permanent collection include an extensive collection of prints and drawings, some stellar European paintings, and a great deal of contemporary art from Latin America, as well as modern art from the USA. For visitors interested in getting to know the collection a little better, group tours are offered for a small fee. A busy schedule of visiting artists and curators, as well as an exciting series of film screenings means that your visit might coincide with something even more intellectually stimulating, too.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and is free on Thursdays. The third Thursday of each month, The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art extends its hours until nine in the evening, and special events are often scheduled, too. The museum's central Austin location puts it close to a number of hotels, including The Doubletree Guest Suites Austin, The Star of Texas Inn, and Austin's Inn at Pearl Street.
