The Alabama Independent School Association is an organization which caters to independent and Christian schools and their athletics in the state of Alabama. It was first formed in 1970. At first, there were a mere 9 schools within the association, but within two years that changed to 57 members; athletic programs, including an eight team football play off system, were also developed. Today, the Association oversees approximately 60 private schools in the state. Their main offices are located in Montgomery, Alabama, on the campus of Huntingdon College. The group is in charge of organizing varsity sports, namely, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, tennis, soccer, football, and cheerleading among others. Each school is classified into one of three classes according to enrollment numbers; championships are awarded by class.
