The Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art is one of the largest collections of contemporary art in the Southeastern United States. In the spring of 2009, the University of North Florida publicly announced its interest in purchasing the museum. It was originally founded in 1924 as the Jacksonville Fine Arts Society, the first organization devoted to the arts in the city of Jacksonville. In 1978 it was accredited by the American Association of Museums and in 1999 it moved into its current location, the historic Telegraph Building on Hemming Plaza. Today, the museum boasts more than 800 pieces in its permanent collection and is a favorite of locals and tourists alike.

It is open from 10AM-4PM Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10 AM-8PM Thursday, and 12PM-4PM Sunday. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
