The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens lie on approximately 110 acres of land at the mouth of the Trout River. The Zoo is extremely interested in working towards the conservation of animal species, and has enacted several agreements and plans to that effect. The zoo itself proudly hosts a large colony of breeding woodstorks. Other notable attractions include the Range of the Jaguar, an exhibit which showcases animals from neotropical rainforest regions. These include African Savannah animals, Great Apes of the World, Plains of East Africa, the Australian Outback, etc. The zoo is currently home to over 2,000 animals. Stingray bay, the giraffe overlook, and the Komodo Dragon exhibit are all other star attractions.

Hours run daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with varied summer hours. Admission is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, and $8 for children age 3-12.

Visitors will enjoy lodging at the nearby Holiday Inn and the Wingate Inn.
