While visitors to New York spending time in White Plains might not have historical buildings on their mind, those buffs of architecture of yesteryear will enjoy a visit to the Jacob Purdy House. Maintained by the Westchester County Historical Society, the Jacob Purdy House was built in the 1700s and was allegedly once used as a safe house for President George Washington during the Battle of White Plains. The simple red house was definitely a headquarters for the General at some points during the war.

In the 1970s, the Jacob Purdy House was moved to its current location after a restoration and repairs effort brought it back to its original luster. The house is currently open for visitors, as well as serving as the main headquarters for the White Plains Historical Society.
