Jaffa Gate is one of the entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem that was a focal disembarking point for Jewish and Christian pilgrims as it led towards their own quarters inside. It also gave the easiest access to the popular sections of the market and to the Tower of David Museum.

The portal is named after Jaffa Road, which became the main portal towards the port city. Aside from the Jewish and Christian quarters being the predominant features upon entering Jaffa Gate, the Tower of David or Citadel of Jerusalem is an important landmark. The gate is a symbol of greatness, as ancient conquerors traditionally used it for their grand entrance. On the other hand, close by is the Tower that was used for public addresses during the British occupancy.

Modern-day Jaffa Gate sees both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, with a connection to the shopping district of Mamilla.
