Located at 427 6th Avenue in the heart of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Alabama Museum of Natural History is the state's official museum of natural history, situated on the gorgeous and inviting grounds of the University of Alabama. The museum is not only recognized as an outstanding academic and scientific institution but is also distinguished by its attractive Classical Revival style façade, constituting one of the more elegant structures in the city.

The Alabama Museum of Natural History has exhibits and displays focusing on a wide variety of fields, including mineralogy, ethnology, photography, paleontology, geology and zoology, with a specific focus on the Age of Dinosaurs, the Ice Age and the Coal Age. Among the more bizarre objects on display is the Hodges meteorite, a heavenly object which actually struck an Alabama resident as it fell to earth (a truly rare occurrence).

Admission to the museum is free, and the hours of operation are Mondays through Saturdays from 10am-4:30pm. Find out more by visiting the museum's website at http://amnh.ua.edu/wordpress/.

Nearby lodging can be had at the Hampton Inn, the Four Points Hotel or the Hotel Capstone, among many further possibilities presenting themselves in the vicinity.
