Jan Smuts Airport is the original name of the airport located in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. Founded in 1952, it was named after Jan Smuts, a South African statesman. The name was changed to Johannesburg International Airport following a ban in the usage of politician’s names. When the ban was lifted, the airport was renamed on October 2006 after the former President of the African National Congress, Oliver Tambo, so that it is now called as the OR Tambo Airport.

The airport is owned and operated by the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). It is the busiest airport in Africa and the first in the continent to host the Airbus A380. The airport is accessible by car, bus, and soon through train. Several airlines serve the airport – domestic and international cargo and passenger flights.
