Located in Birmingham, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and communication of the state’s athletic history. The museum was founded in 1967 by a legislative act and today displays over 5,000 objects related to Alabama sports. It is now a benchmark for other sports museums across the United States.

Of ESPN’s list of the top 100 athletes of the century, exhibits regarding five of the top fifteen greatest can be found at the ASHOF – Jesse Owens, Hank Aaron, Joe Louis, Willie Mays and Carl Lewis. Each year, new athletes are inducted into the museum following a complex nomination and election process.

The 33,000 square-foot museum is visited by thousands of patrons each year. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for students. Family and group discounts are also available.
