The Japanese Tea Gardens, a historic landmark beloved by locals and visitors alike in San Antonio, Texas, is located at Brackenridge Park, 4000 N. St. Mary's Street. Also known as Sunken Gardens, these lush gardens feature picturesque walkways, a Japanese pagoda, and stone arch bridges. A replica of a Japanese Torii gate is situated at the entrance to the gardens. This unique concrete architectural feature was designed by artist Dionicio Rodriguez. The name of the garden pays homage to a significant period in its history. Invited by the city in 1919, the Japanese-American artist Kimi Eizo Jingu moved to the garden. He later opened a tea room, called the Bamboo Room, and married and raised eight children at the park.
