Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library

Hotels near Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library, Biloxi, United States .

The Jefferson Davis Home in Biloxi, Mississippi, was built from 1848 to 1952, by James Brown, a wealthy plantation owner. In 1877, when ex-confederate President Jefferson Davis began his search for a quiet southern home to settle into, he stumbled across the place, and immediately fell in love. The current owner had named it Beauvoir—a fitting name, which means “beautiful view,” in French—and made him the sole heir after her death in 1879. Today, the plantation is home to Jefferson Davis' extensive library, and is open for public tours. Among the other notable areas of the property are the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier, the Jefferson Davis Gallery, gift shop, and the Jefferson Davis Presidential Museum. Beauvoir is owned by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and tours run from Monday through Sunday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Nearby hotel options include Quality Inn Biloxi, and the Days Inn.
