Located in the heart of downtown, the park was created to commemorate a variety of important historical events, including the Louisiana Purchase, the movement towards westward expansion, and the nations' debate over slavery.

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is located on the former site of the city's original downtown, and consists of the Museum of Westward Expansion, the Old Courthouse, where the famous Dred Scott case was heard, and of course, the Gateway Arch itself.

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is a popular spot for school and group tours, as well as for travelers who want to learn more about the beginnings and turning points for Missouri and America as a whole, really.
