The JenTower or Intershop Tower is a skyscraper in Jena, Weimar, Germany. It is the second tallest office building in the eastern provinces after the City Building in Leipzig 142.5 m, 155.40 m overall with aerial support.
The central emergence of the building was politically motivated. In Jena, the state architect Hermann Henselmann was commissioned to design a round tower to be the symbol of a telescope. On 2 October 1972 the skyscraper was inaugurated.
It has 31 floors, including 2 basement floors and 29 upper floors. The tower is built in Gleitschalbauweise on a 3.20 meters thick reinforced concrete floor slab. The diameter is 33 meters. Connected to the building there is a shopping center of approximately 6000 square meters of retail space and a parking garage with 200 parking spaces. The JenTower is currently owned by the Commercial Saller Ltd.
The closest airports to the site are Erfurt and Altenburg/Nobitz, located approximately 50km away and the nearest train station is Train Station Jena 0.7 km far. Friedrich Schiller University is situated nearby and Zeiss Planetarium is one of the most famous landmarks.
