Jersey Zoological Park or Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust as it’s known now is located in Trinity, Jersey, United Kingdom. It’s basically an island on the English Channel and the park is spread over an area of 31 acres. It came into being by the efforts of famed naturalist and acclaimed author, Gerald Durrell. The zoo is a charitable organization and has always stood for the protection of endangered species of animals. There are over 190 species of protected animals within its grounds. It serves to protect both exotic species as well as those native to the island. It also provides a habitat to wide variety of birds and insects in the form of the widespread vegetation that has been planted as the efforts of the Trust.
Tourists can enjoy the pleasure of guided tours out in the park. All the guides are volunteers who put in their efforts without charging any fee for the sake of protection of these animals. The Trust depends on the donations of various organizations, individuals and the visitors. The visitors get to spend a day enjoying the wilderness and the beauty of nature distanced from the modern world. There are Souvenir stalls and visitors also get the opportunity to donate to the cause or even adopt animals living in the Park.
The park is functional throughout the year except on Christmas and opening hours are 09:30 to 18:00 during summers and 09:30 to 19:00 during winters. An adult entry ticket costs GBP 12.90 and there are various other forms of entry schemes available. All proceeds from the tickets are utilized for the great cause of the Trust. www.durrell.org is the official website of the park.
