Located in the capitol city of Georgia – former President Jimmy Carter’s home state – visitors will find the papers and materials related to the Carter administration and to Carter’s personal life in permanent exhibitions. The library also plays host to special exhibits, such as the U.S. Bill of Rights and Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize. Managed by the National Archives and Records Administration and a part of the Presidential Library system of the United States, the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum is housed in a nearly 70,000 square foot facility.

Since its 1986 opening, the library and museum has become a fixture on the Atlanta tourism circuit. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. Admission for adults is $8.00 with discounts for senior citizens, students, military members and children (September 2009). The library is also open during the week for research. Those wishing to consult further information are encouraged to visit the library and museum’s website at www.jimmycarterlibrary.gov. Out of town visitors should look into staying close to the organization as well, with options such as the Highland Inn and the Sheraton Hotel nearby.
