The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, in Cincinnati, Ohio, stretches across the Ohio River and Covington, Kentucky. When it was first opened to the public on December 1,1866, it had the honor of being the longest suspension bridge in the world at 1,057 feet. It was also the first in the world to use vertical suspenders and diagonal stays from each tower. The bridge may no longer be the longest of its kind, but it is still used by pedestrians to get to Paul Brown Stadium, the Great American Ball Park and the US Bank Arena. On the Kentucky side, there are a variety of hotels and bars which go under the name of Roebling Point. The bridge remains a focal point of the city.
