Located on the west side of town, in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the John Ball Park is a broad public park which houses the regionally renowned John Ball Zoological Garden, a prominent attraction. The zoo is home to over 1100 animals that represent over 200 different species, and in total the zoo takes up a space of 140 acres.

The zoo's more popular exhibits include the Stingray Lagoon, the African Veldt Exhibit, and the Mokomboso Valley Chimpanzee Exhibit. The zoo recently added three lions to its repertoire (as of 2007), as the species had been absent for some years since the death of the last specimen in 2005.

The fee for admission to the zoo changes from winter to summer, with the latter being more expensive; a summer ticket will cost $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children, while the same people will be charged $3.50 and $3, respectively, during the winter. The hours of operation during the summer are 9am-6pm daily (mid May through mid September), and are 10am-4pm during the winter (mid September through mid May).
