The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, also commonly known as the Kennedy Center, is a performing arts center located in Washington, D.C., United States. Since its official opening on September 8, 1971 it has been one of Washington, D.C.’s premier venues for performances such as theater, dance, orchestral, jazz, and multi-media for all ages. This popular performing arts facility is the busiest in the country, not to mention at the forefront of art education, and an affiliate of the National Symphony Orchestra. The National Cultural Center Act, bill signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower passed in 1958, and what was to become the Kennedy Center was designed and built by architect Edward Durrell Stone. Venues within the Kennedy Center include the Grand Foyer, the Concert Hall, the Opera House and the Eisenhower Theater, as well as smaller spaces like the Family Theater, the Terrace Theater, the Theater Lab, the Millennium Stage, the KC Jazz Club, and the River and Rooftop Terraces. Additionally, as the only U.S. institution to do so, the Kennedy Center is proud to present a free performance under the Performing Arts for Everyone initiative 365 days a year.

When visiting the Kennedy Center enjoy not only the world-class performances but the restaurants, gift shops, and guided tours available at the Center. Tickets can be purchased online, at the box office from 10am-9pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12 noon-9pm on Sundays, or by phone. If driving to the Kennedy Center there is a parking garage onsite, with “performance parking” spaces available for $18 per vehicle. To arrive by public transport, take the Metro (Subway) Rail to the Foggy Bottom/George Washington University Station on the orange and blue lines. Kennedy Center shuttles are available in the vicinity of the station.
