The Alamo is one of the top sights to include in your visit to San Antonio, Texas. Having played a major role in the state’s battle for independence from Mexico, the Alamo is the most famous historical site in Texas. Originally the Mission San Antonio del Valero, the Alamo was bravely defended for thirteen days before it was finally surrendered to the Mexican army in 1836. The chapel and Long Barrack are the only remaining structures of the Alamo; however, visitors to the site can also view other artifacts from this period that are now housed in the Alamo museum.
