Once the residence of James Jordan, founder of Valley Junction, the Jordan House is now home to the Historical Society and museum for the City of West Des Moines in a restored Victorian Mansion in present-day West Des Moines, Iowa. The site is of great historical significance, once serving as a station on the Underground Railroad (early 1850’s to 1860’s). Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Jordan House of Italianate Gothic design has 16 rooms which are used to exhibit antiques and artifacts. The Historical Society also operates the Bennett School, a restored one-room schoolhouse as remembered by former students and teachers.

From May to September, visit the Jordan house on Wednesday and Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm, or Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm. The admission fee is $3 for adults, and $1 for children. Learn more about both properties by visiting the official website, at: http://www.thejordanhouse.org/.
