Josefstadt

Josefstadt, located in the center of the city of Vienna, Austria, comprises an area of 1.08 sq. km of the smallest district of Vienna, therefore only 0.26% of the total area of Vienna. The district lies between the belt and the so-called Wiener Zweierlinie, being part of one of the most densely built-up districts of Vienna.
The territory of the Josefstadt was populated relatively late. The only significant building was a farm, known as the Red Court in the Middle Ages. An intensive settlement did not begin until the late 16th Century. This settlement was purchased by the City of Vienna and received the name of Josefstadt under Emperor Joseph I.
Some of the main attractions in Josefstadt are: Theater in der Josefstadt, Vienna's English Theater, the oldest English theater in Vienna, the Austrian Museum of Ethnology at the Palais Schönborn, Laudongasse, Palais Auersperg, House "to the Holy Trinity" (now "Old Bakery"), a classic example of the Baroque architecture of the suburbs, Strozzi Palace Lucky Pig Museum, Le Petit, the smallest theater in the world (19 seats), Theatro Kosilo, the smallest stage of Vienna (5 meters).The most famous coffee houses are Café Hummel, cafe and coffee shop Florianihof Eiles. The largest park (10,000 m²) is Joseph Schoenborn Park in the range of Florianigasse and Long Lane. The park is a garden palace with gardens from the 18th Century ago. The Tiger Tiger Park at the intersection of Arrow Street and Park Lane is the smallest of the Josefstadt. At the border with Ottakring there is a metro station known as Josefstädterstraße, U6 and next to the Inner City, the metro station hall of U2. In the district area run several tram and bus lines.
