Jummah Masjid is situated on the Royal Road of the City of Port Louis, Mauritius. It is the country’s second mosque. Jummah Masjid broadcasts live Jummah Prayers every Friday and Taraweeh prayers every Ramadan, so are the Eid Prayers. Other services done in the mosque is Madrassah, where Muslim children go to in order to learn Quraan shareef.

The Mosque’s history can be traced in 1852. According to the story, prominent members of Port Louis’ mercantile community got together and purchased two properties on Queen Street of Port Louis. These are Haji Joonus Allarakia, Casseem Hemeem, Jornmb Satardeenah, Elias Hadjee Hamode, Hajee Abdoollah Essack, Hajee Ab doorahim Allanah, Ismael Ibrahim and Omar Yacoob. The amount of the properties is Rs 6,800.00. The purchase was made on October 20, 1852, in behalf of the Muslim community of Mauritius.

Jummah Masjid is managed by a committee elected every three years by members of the Sunni Cutchee Maiman Society of Mauritius. Only the members of the society are eligible to file for candidacy for the reason of their deep knowledge and experience of the religion as well as the mosque’s history.
