The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts located in downtown Anchorage, Alaska first opened its doors in 1989. One of the premier performance venues of the area, the performing arts center entertains over 200,000 people annually. It consists of three theaters – the Evangeline Atwood Concert Hall, Discovery Theatre and Sydney Laurence Theatre. These three theatres vary in size and design and are each fit for specific types of events and performances.

Throughout the year, several performance groups visit the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. The center also has its own resident companies, including the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Anchorage Opera, the Alaska Dance Theater and the Anchorage Concert Chorus among others.
