The protected natural area Kabah Park, or Parque Kabah as it is known locally, covers an area of 41 hectares. It is a center for ecology, history, art, and culture in the region, located in the southern part of the city of Quintana Roo. Within the park guided tours, ecological activities, and workshops for painting, drawing, chess, yoga, and lecture are available to locals and visitors alike. Officially protected as an urban park and ecological reserve in November of 1995, lucky park-goers will see snakes, armadillos, crococdiles, spidermonkeys, and pumas, all part of a group of about 46 vertebrate species that occupy the Park.

Due to the park’s protected status, it shows the floral and faunal diversity that develops with total freedom in Cancun. This “lung of the city” hasn’t been designed as a zoo, and is actively saving and protecting many species at high risk of extinction in their natural habitats. The park is also home to the Casa Maya Museum, which provides demonstrations of traditional Mayan culture, and displays photos of areas like the hotel district when it was completely deserted, not so long ago.
