Kadriorg Art Museum

The Kadriog Art Museum established in July 2000 is a branch of the Art Museum of Estonia. This museum is housed in one of the chambers of the famous Kadriog Palace which was once an imperial summer residence of Russian monarchs who used to govern present-day Estonia.


Kadriog means “Catherine’s Valley” which refers to Catherine I, one of Russia’s most powerful empresses. The palace that this museum can be found is a striking edifice of Baroque architecture and resembles Italian villas. Its interiors are filed with stucco works and its ceilings are filled with paintings from famous artists allover Europe.


Kadriog Art Museum is proud to have massive collections of paintings, prints, sculptures, decorative arts, porcelains and miniature portraits. Some of these artworks date back from the 16th century from Russian, German and even Finnish artists. To name a few of its collections, there are 900 paintings, 3,500 prints, 3000 sculptures and gems and 1,600 decorative art objects. Aside from art exhibitions, the Kadriog Art Museum and the rest of the palace hold concerts, tours, lectures and theatrical performances.


Guided tours are available for a group of 10-35 visitors and must be booked and reserved a week in advance. Taking photos inside the museum is allowed as long as flash and tripods are not used. The museum is close during public holidays, every Mondays from May to September and every Tuesdays from October to April. During opening days, visitors can come from 10am to 5pm.


The museum has an elevator on its second floor and on the west wing of its third floor. For disabled visitors, ramps are available upon request.


The 100 hectare property that the Kadriog Art Museum is located is filled with many attractions like the Flower Garden and other museums within the palace.


Just a few meters away from the palace are restaurants and shops along with hotels with adequate facilities and amenities.
