Established in the 1740s, the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Congregation is one of the oldest synagogues in the nation. Its present building is located at 90 Hassell Street in Charleston, South Carolina. It was constructed in 1840, making it the second oldest synagogue building in the nation. In 1980, the synagogue was designated a National Historic Landmark.

The congregation maintains a strong influence in the local Jewish community, with a membership quota of over 475 households. The congregation's Caning Street Cemetery is also on the National Register of Historic Places, and is the oldest Jewish cemetery in the southern US.

A regular Friday evening Shabbat service begins at 8:00 pm. The Saturday Shabbat morning service is at 11:00 am.
