Kaiserswerth is a district in the city of Düsseldorf, Germany. Located north of the city near the Rhine, midway between Dusseldorf and Duisburg it has 7 897 inhabitants and 4.71 kilometers square area.
The oldest documented demonstration of the existance of Kaiserswerth district dates from the colonization period. Saint Saint Suitbert founded, around year 700 a Benedictine abbey in Werth, later Kaiserswerth. This abbey was destroyed 88 years later. Kaiserswerth became part of Düsseldorf in 1929.
The oldest surviving monuments in Kaiserswerth and in Dusseldorf as a whole, apart from some archaeological finds are: the Kaiserswerther menhir from the period 2000 to 1500 BC, the Ruins of the Imperial Palace in Kaiserswerth, Suitbertus Basilica as it can be seen from behind the basilica in Suitbertus Kaiserswerth, a former bunker. There are a lot of beautiful museums in Kaiserswerth: the culture museum Fliedner Cultural Foundation in the former Sister Tabea Hospital, The Art Archive Kaiserswerth, The Museum Kaiserswerth. Kaiserswerth has five schools.
Rail line U79 (formerly D-Train), the Rhine railway company and the Duisburg Verkehrsgesellschaft AG binds Kaiserswerth toDusseldorf and Duisburg-Meiderich. There are also bus services to Ratingen, Mettmann and the Dusseldorf airport. The central station in Kaiserswerth is Klemensplatz. Kaiserswerth is crossed from north to south from the busy highway 8. As a quick access way to downtown, B8 is available. Furthermore, there is a boat landing, which is used by tour boats to and from the Old Town.
