The Kakaako Waterfront Park, located at End of One Street (off of Ala Moana Blvd.) in Honolulu, Hawaii, lies upon 35 acres on the top of an old city landfill. Today, the only reminders of this aspect of the park's history are a few vents scattered about the area. This lovely, family-friendly park runs along the waterfront between the ship loading docks and the opening of the Kewalo Basin. Near the entrance to this harbor can be found a popular destination among surfers, known as Point Panic. The most ideal time of day to visit the park is arguably around sunset, when dinner and sail boats begin their nightly parade through the entrance to the harbor, especially in the summer when the waves are high. Park features include parking, paved paths (among them, the popular waterfront walking path), and places to spread out a picnic. Children enjoy rolling down the hills which make this park so popular, and joggers and newlyweds can also be frequently found among its visitors.
