Kalk is a district in Cologne, Germany, known all over the world for the famous factory it housed on its land. Chemische Fabrik Kalk was a major chemical company in Cologne. The company was founded in 1858 as a chemical plant Vorster & Gruneberg and renamed in 1892 to its curent name. The CRP was temporarily the second largest Sodaproduzent in Germany with up to 2400 employees.
The district is bordered to the north by the Municipality of Mülheim, to the east to by Rösrath Bergisch Gladbach, by the Porz district to the south and in its western side lays Deutz district downtown. In 1992, a new District Town Hall was opened, the creation of architect Gottfried Böhm, from Cologne. The nearest train stations to the district are: Central Station Cologne and Leverkusen Central Station and the closest airports are Köln/Bonn, 15 km away and Dusseldorf , located within a 40 km distance.
Main attractions all over the city of Cologne: the Phantasialand, the Zoo, Gallery of Mirrors, Cologne Volksgarten, Stadtgarten Park.
